Nova Southern University offers many degree programs, several of which are offered through online distance learning programs. Since 1971 Nova Southeastern University has had accreditation from the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The university offers programs that are a blend of campus and online study. Among these “blended programs” are the cluster format and the institute format. The former consist of four weekend visits, while the latter entails two weeklong visits each year. The Graduate School of Computers and Information Sciences of Nova Southeastern University offers various Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees focusing on different science and computer related fields.

The Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Information Systems (DCIS) degree program is designed for professionals who are interested in developing their knowledge and skills regarding developing solutions for real-world problems. Students with a Master’s degree in computer information systems, computer science, information technology, and related areas of study will be considered for acceptance to this program. Students will graduate with an advanced knowledge of computer information systems, and will possess many skills that will help advance their careers.

The Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science (CISD) degree program is designed for students with a Master’s degree in computer science or a closely related field. Student should have relevant experience in computer science related fields such as data communications, operating systems, database management systems, theory of computation, and others. By the end of the program, a student should be able to have an advanced knowledge and a deeper understanding of computer science. One can also expect to be able to communicate professionally about computer science research issues, identify scholarly literature, and generate new knowledge.

The Doctor of Philosophy in Computing Technology in Education (DCTE) degree program accepts students with a Master’s degree in any liberal arts as well as science and education. Along with a Master’s degree, relevant computing and communication experience in the English language is required. Among the skills that a student in this program will gain is the ability to conduct and report on original work or research that stresses the use of information technology to improve education, the ability to implement multimedia applications in training and education applications, the ability to explore learning theories and how they can be applied to education, and many others.

The Doctor of Philosophy in Information Systems (DISS) degree program is intended for individuals with a Master’s degree in information systems, information science, computer science, information technology, and related areas of study. Relevant experience in the appointed fields is also required. Students will acquire a richer knowledge in the field of information systems, will gain the tools needed in order to communicate professionally regarding information system issues, as well as obtain other skills that will assist in advancing their careers.
