Online Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing – PhD

The Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing (PhD) degree is one of the few nursing doctorates, and is sometimes compared with the Doctor of Nursing Science (DNSc, DNS, DSN) degree. This is because these two degrees are research oriented whereas the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree, another nursing doctorate, is more focused on clinical practice. The PhD in Nursing is an academic degree that prepares students for both research and teaching positions. Although the Doctor of Nursing Science degree is also primarily focused on research, it is considered a professional doctorate, with a concentration on research. In other words, the Doctor of Nursing Science degree is professional-level research degree and the PhD in Nursing is a fully academic degree.
