Walden University PhD In Health Services

The PhD in Health Services program of Walden University examines both the theoretical and practical aspects of health care services, based on a learning model that encourages original research and real-world application of knowledge. One can become an effective scholar-practitioner who is able to meet the challenges of today’s healthcare system and the community it serves. A PhD in Health Services student will gain insight in issues of health and human behavior, including health and healing as well as health and social behavior. The flexibility to earn a doctoral degree is offered as students continue to meet their professional and personal commitments. Industry contacts are developed through a combination of face-to-face residencies and online forums. Completion of any of the offered specialization namely the General Program, Community Health Promotion and Education and Health Management and Policy can provide the expertise for participants to move to the forefront of health services.

General Program

An interdisciplinary approach to the study of health services is provided by the General Program. Students will get to study several issues of health and human behavior such as health and healing, health and professional behavior, health and social behavior, and health and lifespan issues. There is an option to design one’s own course of study as long as it will fit within the existing structure of the program. Development of such course of study should be done in consultation with program faculty and approved by the faculty chair.

Community Health Promotion and Education

The specialization on Community Health Promotion and Education focuses on developing strategies that improve community health and their individual members. This course studies the multiple issues of health and human behavior including health and healing, health and professional behavior, health and social behavior, and health and lifespan issues. Student can design their own area of study or choose among the offered focus areas.

Health Management and Policy

The Health Management and Policy specialization prepares professionals to administer health and medical care services within the “integrated delivery systems” model. Professionals are also prepared to become administrators of health profession programs in higher education such as nursing, public health and allied health. The ability to provide administrative leadership and conduct research to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of the services they administer is expected to be gained by course graduates.
