Walden University School of Counseling and Social Service

Walden University’s School of Counseling and Social Service paves the way for fulfilling personal and professional goals in a flexible learning environment where students get to enhance their capacity to act as a social change agent. Programs offered allow students to focus on their interest in culturally and contextually relevant specializations. Learning happens in the scholar-practitioner model which integrates research with professional expertise. Opportunities for interdisciplinary study and research collaboration abound in Walden University’s online classroom environment. Established methods of scientific inquiries and evidence based practice are used for the greater good. There are two (2) degree programs offered; Ph. D. in Human Services with seven (7) specializations and the M.S. in Mental Health Counseling.

Walden University’s online classrooms include the DropBox for submitting assignments to instructors, the Chat for real-time communication with classmates, and the Gradebook which is for viewing grades and checking one’s progress. Students can get the most from their studies by dedicating blocks of time to their chosen program. Time will be used in reading, assignments, research projects and online discussions. There are certain technology requirements such as proficiency in using email, the Internet and common desktop productivity software, among others. Technical assistance and support in the online classrooms are provided throughout the programs.

Ph. D. in Human Services

The Ph. D. in Human Services program offered by Walden University is one of the largest of its kind. Students become part of a community of professionals committed to making a difference. Focus is placed on applying action-oriented research to students’ practical expertise. In this way, more cutting-edge public and private services can be developed through better assessment and modification. This program offers faculty-guided research based on professional interest and backgrounds, online courses focused on building scholarly skills, face-to-face residencies that prepare students for each phase of the program plus interaction with diverse faculty and professionals.

M.S. in Mental Health Counseling

The M.S. in Mental Health Counseling offered by Walden University is a program that will prepare its students to address and treat behavioral disorders knowledgeably, ethically and with respect for diversity. Confidence, qualifications and critical-thinking skills are gained to enable one to seek licensure and to apply best practices as a change agent in the counseling profession. This program offers online courses focused on practical skills with interactive simulations where students get to apply their learning to real-world situations.
